Apply for a Grant from the Power of Youth Fund

Power of Youth Logo - ColorOverview
The Perry County Power of Youth Fund was established in 2009 to engage local youth in philanthropy through education, leadership opportunities, and participation in local philanthropic activities.  Each year, the Fund's Youth Council will identify priority issues facing the county's youth, determine funding priorities, and solicit grant proposals from nonprofit, charitable organizations that serve Perry County youth and address the targeted need.

Grant Cycle

The Power of Youth funding cycle will run from February through May each year with the proposal submission deadline in April.  Funding requests will be accepted from February through the April deadline.  Funding requests submitted after the April deadline will not be considered.

Project Funding Focus
In 2010, the Power of Youth Council will consider funding requests for a broad range of projects or programs that serve Perry County youth (grades 6 - 12) and that promote the betterment of the Perry County community.

Eligibility
The Power of Youth Fund welcomes funding requests from nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code and from governmental agencies serving Perry County youth.  Funding requests from other nonprofit organizations to carry out charitable projects or activities that address issues facing youth in Perry County may be accepted; however, the organization may be required to apply using a fiscal sponsor.

Fiscal Sponsors
Funding requests submitted by a non-501(c)(3) organization being sponsored by a public charity must include a written statement signed by the charity's board president on behalf of the board of directors agreeing to act as the organization's fiscal sponsor, to receive grant monies if awarded, and to oversee the proposed project.

Deliberation
The Power of Youth Council will review all grant requests and will make funding recommendations to the Perry County Community Foundation Board of Trustees.  If approved, the Board of Trustees will make final funding recommendations to the Community Foundation Alliance Board of Directors (our governing board).

No lobbying or soliciting of Power of Youth Council or Board of Trustee members will be permitted.  All organizations that have submitted a grant proposal will be notified of the status of their proposal in late April or early May.

Grant Recipient Reporting Procedures
If the funding request is approved, the organization is required to submit a six-month progress report and a final report at project completion as instructed by the Community Foundation Alliance.  Organizations approved for funding must complete their projects within one year of receiving the grant award.
