John Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund

John Williams Pic Our son and brother, John Anton Williams, or more commonly known by his friends as “Big John” died as the result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident on September 25th, 2008.  We his parents Jim and Earla and brother Logan have decided we would like to honor John’s memory with a scholarship to a Perry County Student furthering their education in the automotive field.

John graduated in 2003 from the Perry Central Community School. During his junior and senior years he attended vocational classes in automotive technology at TCHS. He then went on to attend Nashville Auto Diesel College and graduated with a diploma in auto body technology.

From the time John was a little boy he was tinkering or taking apart motors, vehicles, and always working on something for himself or his friends. He enjoyed the camaraderie of working with his friends on different projects. John was big in stature and had an outgoing personality. He had a tremendous amount of friends as he never met a stranger. John was known for his big heart as he loved everyone as would give anyone what he had if he felt they were in need.

John was what I would call a non-traditional student. He basically went to school to socialize. Had it not been for the automotive class, we may have had a hard time keeping him in school. As a school board member at Perry Central, I realize the importance of offering a wide variety of learning opportunities for our students. Not every student has the desire or finances to attend a four year college. For this reason, we want to offer a scholarship to a student advancing their education in automotive technology. We chose to offer this scholarship to a graduation senior of all Perry County Schools because without TCHS offering the automotive class, John would not have been able to attend. Our family also has connection to each school as John’s father graduated from TC; I graduated from CHS and Logan from PCCS.

John touched a tremendous amount of lives in the 23 years of life. We in turn want to honor our son and brother by helping another young man or woman further their education.
