Scholarships and Criteria

The Community Scholarship Program is active from November through June each school year. The information contained on this page is NOT to be considered current at any other time.

The Foundation administers separate scholarship funds established by individuals, families, corporations, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Program. Eligibility, criteria, and supplemental requirements are different for each scholarship. Robert E. Boyles Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Beverly C. McGee in memory of her friend.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating female seniors of Cannelton High School.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Official grade transcript (guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
3.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Award Amount: $330.


Branchville Correctional Facility Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Branchville Correctional Facility in memory of former employees to encourage current employees and their dependents to further their education and to motivate recipients to achieve maximum scholastic and vocational potential.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be full or part-time employees of the Branchville Correctional Facility or dependents of employees. The dependents must be 23 years old or younger. The applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree at any accredited college, university or technical school. Preference will be given to employees and then to employees' dependents.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on scholastic record, evidence of leadership, career plans and objectives, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Letter of recommendation from an individual other than a family member or another employee of the Branchville Correctional Facility in support of applicant's desire to attain higher education.
3.  Official grade transcript (for Perry County high school seniors, guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
4.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Buehler Foods Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Buehler Foods.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school demonstrating good academic standing.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Official grade transcript (guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
3.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Earl and Hazel Etienne Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by their children in memory of their parents.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to major in education and pursue a career in education. Applicants must demonstrate good academic standing and financial need.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form, financial need, and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Completion of the "FAFSA4caster" and submission of your "FAFSA4caster" Entry page and College Cost Worksheet page showing your calculated EFC (Expected Family Contribution).  Visit the Apply for a Scholarship page for additional instructions.

Cecil and Olive Foster Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Olive M. Foster.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited four-year college, university or institution; an accredited two-year program leading to a four-year undergraduate degree; an accredited two-year degree program; or a full- time program at an accredited trade, vocational or technical school.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on financial need, high moral standards, ambition, definite goals, and the required essay. Applicants must have maintained a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) during their junior and senior years of high school.

Supplemental Requirements:

Home Mutual Academic Achievement Scholarship
Scholarship created by the Home Mutual Insurance Company.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing additional education in business.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on academic standing, financial need, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:

Mark "Flash" Kleeman Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship established in memory of Mark "Flash" Kleeman by his wife, Angie, children, Brandon and Angel, and his extended family.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School, Perry Central High School or Heritage Hills High School with a cumulative grade point average ranging from 2.5 to 3.25 who plan to continue their education or training at any accredited trade or vocational school.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form, financial need (specifically, students who may not qualify for merit-based or other types of scholarships and/or state or federal aid), and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

Zachary Kleemann Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Jim and Kathleen Kleemann in memory of their son.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School with a class ranking of no higher than 8th and no lower than 50th.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on financial need, moral character, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:

Loren and Bernice Lanman Scholarship
Annual scholarships created by Bernice Lanman.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors from each of the three Perry County high schools who have been enrolled during the entire senior year.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on ability in chosen field of study (academic, technical, vocational, or trade), school attendance record, financial need, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:

J. Matthew Moore Memorial Scholarship
Annual renewable scholarship created in memory of Matthew Moore by his wife, Lucy Goffinet, and his parents, John E. and Ann C. Moore, to help students pursuing advanced education.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Cannelton High School or Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.0 (4.0 scale).

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on applicant's success in overcoming difficult circumstances, a history of working hard to achieve aspirations and goals, the desire to help others, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Perseverance (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form) describing the challenges faced in order to pursue past and/or future aspirations and goals.
2.  Letter of recommendation in support of the applicant's ability to overcome challenges and obstacles.
3.  Official grade transcript (guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
4.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2012.  (If this date falls on a holiday or weekend, the application is due the preceding weekday.) 

Award Amount: $500.

Renewal Details: May be renewable for consecutive sophomore, junior and senior years. Renewal applications may be considered provided the recipient continues to pursue his or her educational goals and maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). Arnold Mulzer Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarships created by Mulzer Crushed Stone.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors from each of the three Perry County high schools pursuing advanced training in a vocational field such as electrical, mechanical, welding, or carpentry at an accredited college, university, or vocational technical school.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on capability in chosen vocational field, financial need, and the required essay. 

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).

Sam K. Oberhausen Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Mr. and Mrs. Anthony H. Oberhausen in memory of their son.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. Applicants must demonstrate an active interest in the arts, a strong academic record, and financial need.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing post-secondary education of any kind.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

Charles S. (Blackie) and Rose H. Paulin Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Betty Lou Paulin Gast in memory of her parents.

Eligibility Criteria: Perry County residents who are considered non-traditional students and pursuing post-secondary education at any accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school.  Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and must demonstrate financial need and a desire and drive to succeed.  If there are an insufficient number of qualified applications from non-traditional students, the scholarship will then be made available to home-schooled and graduating high school seniors who reside in Perry County.  (A non-traditional student is defined as an individual who delayed his or her enrollment in postsecondary education for at least one year after graduating or withdrawing from high school.)

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and the supplemental requirements.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Perseverance (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form) describing the applicant's life challenges and how the experiences have helped shape his or her plan to reach future goals and aspirations.

Rose Hazel Gabbert Paulin and Charles S. (Blackie) Paulin Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Kenton A. and Betty Paulin Gast in memory of Betty's parents.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduates of any Perry County high school pursuing post-secondary education. Applicants must have a 2.0 (4.0 scale) minimum cumulative grade point average.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on financial need, difficulty of school curriculum, SAT/ACT scores, involvement in community/church service, participation in school/extracurricular activities, and a history of working hard to achieve goals.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Perseverance (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form) describing the challenges faced in order to pursue past and/or future aspirations and goals.

Stacey Peak Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship created to honor Stacey Peak, who was a victim of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. The fund was created by her mother Bobbie Peak and members of her family to help students pursuing advanced education.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on academic performance, financial need, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).

Perry County 4-H Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Evelyn R. Adams.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school. Applicants must have been members of 4-H for a minimum of five years.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Official grade transcript (guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
3.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Perry County FOP Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Lodge 137 of the Perry County Fraternal Order of Police.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing a career in law enforcement or a related field.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statement of Aspirations and Educational Goals (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form).
2.  Official grade transcript (guidance counselor will attach upon receipt of remaining supplemental documents).
3.  Community Scholarship Program Certification Form.

Sam Reed Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Ralph and Rose Reed in honor of their son, Sam, and his remarkable achievements in life. They believe Sam benefited greatly from his special education training and that it helped make him the energetic, hardworking and independent man he is today.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any Perry County High School pursuing post secondary education. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a (4.0 scale).

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on applicant's success in overcoming difficult circumstances, a history of working hard to achieve aspirations and goals, the desire to help others, and the required essay.

Supplemental Requirements:
1.  Statements of Perseverance (provide statement in the appropriate field in the application form) describing the challenges faced in order to pursue past and/or future goals.
2.  Letter of recommendation in support of the applicant's ability to overcome challenges and obstacles will be required as well.

Robert Ress Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by the Optimists Club of Tell City, Indiana.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary vocational education or specific career training. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a strong academic record.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

William J. Schergens Music Scholarship
Annual scholarship created by Becky L. Schergens in memory of her father.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors or graduates of any Perry County high school pursuing a college degree in music (as a major or minor) or a degree in education with some emphasis in music.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need and good academic standing-preferably a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) but slightly lower GPAs will be considered. Preference will be given to graduating seniors.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

Gene and Christina Schwindel Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors or graduates of Perry Central High School pursuing post-secondary education.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and on the supplemental document(s).

Supplemental Requirements:

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of Tell City High School or Perry Central High School pursuing post-secondary education at any Indiana institution of higher learning. Applicants must be considered a rural resident during their entire senior year of high school, must have attended their entire senior year at Tell City High School or Perry Central High School, and must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).

Annual renewable scholarship created through the estate plan of Melba Jean Racener.

Eligibility Criteria: Graduating seniors of any accredited high school whose home residence is in Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, or Warrick counties in Indiana. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) and be planning to pursue post-secondary education in advertising, marketing, communications or a related field. 

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on academic performance and financial need, with preference given to applicants who demonstrate active participation in extracurricular activities, especially as they relate to the applicants' major.
