Celebrating "Women in Philanthropy Day"
The Perry County Women for Women, a fund of the Perry County Community Foundation, held its 7th Annual “Women in Philanthropy Luncheon” on Friday, June 5, 2009, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the EUCC Fellowship Hall. The women celebrated Perry County’s “Women in Philanthropy Day” as proclaimed by the Perry County Commissioners by presenting two grant awards.
The Circle of 100, a giving circle of women, presented Tell City High School with a $3,000 grant award and Perry Central High School with a $2,000 grant award. Each school developed a program to help promote self-esteem in our community’s girls.
Joan Hess, co-chair of the Women for Women Advisory Committee, spoke to the attendees about how women are making substantial impacts in their communities, our country and throughout the world. She encouraged all women to be a philanthropist by giving their time, talent or treasure. The Women for Women Advisory Committee ended the luncheon by encouraging women to join the 2009-2010 Circle of 100. By joining the giving circle you will be able to give voice to your ideas that you think would benefit women and girls in our community. The Circle of 100 members give a $100 contribution to build the Women for Women Fund, an endowment that will never be spent but will grow to become a powerful, permanent grantmaking instrument over time. $25 of the contribution will be added to this fund, and the other $75 will be for a 2010 grant.
When the circle reaches 100 members, they will have not only increased the endowment by $2,500 but they also will be able to award a $7,500 grant right away! As a Circle of 100 member, you are invited to share your ideas about how we can address issues facing our county’s women and girls, and vote on which issue will be addressed with the 2010 Circle of 100 grant. |
