2009 Lifetime Philanthropist Award

As part of Perry County Philanthropy Month in November, the Perry County Community Foundation sought out nominations for its first Perry County Lifetime Philanthropist Award. A committee was then formed from the Perry County Power of Youth Council to choose the recipient from the nominations.

2009 Lifetime Philanthropist AwardThe 2009 Perry County Lifetime Philanthropist Award was presented to Evelyn Adams at the December 8th Grant Award Luncheon for the Perry County Community Foundation.

Pat Crawford, member of the board of trustees for the Foundation, presented the award to Mrs. Adams. "There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer and so many of us here know that volunteering is addictive," said Crawford. "We are proud to present this award to someone who has spent her whole life giving back to our Community."  Crawford went on to highlight some of Mrs. Adams volunteer work such as:

  • She was one of the founding board members of the Perry County Community Foundation and served on the board for 6 years.
  • She also created the Perry County 4H Scholarship Fund within the Perry County Community Foundation.
  • She served 6 years on the United Way board...president for 3 years.
  • She is President and a founding member of the Perry County Food Coalition.
  • She is an active member of Clayton Harris United Methodist Church and serves as the Sunday School Superintendent.
  • She is a member of the Lincolnland Federated Women's Club.
  • She worked as Purdue Extension Educator for many years.
  • She is the coordinator and one of founding Cannelton Charge representatives of Jasper Food Pantry.
  • She is also a member of the Red Hat club.

This list is only a small portion of what Evelyn Adams has been involved with in our community. Mrs. Adams was nearly speechless as she accepted the award. "I am honored and humbled by this award," she later said. "Please give my thanks and appreciation to all who had a part in selecting me for this award."
